Half-Asleep Dinos 2018: The Year of The Dinosaurs

Half-Asleep Dinos 2018: The Year of The Dinosaurs

Hello there and welcome! This is the last post for this year! woop, woop! So, I decided to make a retrospective. So lets just jump into it!

The Beginning

In October, I started this blog to show my love about dinosaurs. But not without its setbacks. A while back I tried to make a blog called "prehistoric dinosaur facts". I put presser on myself by trying to upload daily. I only got 13 posts there. You can visit it here. But I came back! With a different blog idea. Instead of giving facts, I give news and essays about dinosaurs.

Now

After I got started people started to read my blog posts. My most popular post was the Spinosaurus: Different then you know. Then I made I huge decision. To get a domain!

The Domain

I Got a Domain! No more .blogspot! I was so happy! But there is one more thing in our history so far.

Dinosaurs in Snow

The first ever event! what is an event? An event is a thing we do every couple of months, where I a post thing relating to the topic for the whole month. Dinosaurs in Snow was the first ever event I ever did. Its all about the dinosaurs that lived in Antarctica. And it went amazingly!

Wrap Up

Thank you for reading this or following this blog! It means so much to me, Thank you! See you next year.

Dinosaurs in Snow : Glacialisaurus

Dinosaurs in Snow : Glacialisaurus

The last post in the Dinosaurs in Snow is all about Glacialisaurus. Glacialisaurus is a sauropodomorph that lived in Antarctica! Only know from a couple hind limb bones, but there is a enough to identify the dinosaur as a sauropodomorph. From the same fossil formation there are fossils of sauropod dinosaur. Which means sauropodomorph and sauropods co-existed for alot of time.
Threats ti Glacialisaurus would be ‬Cryolophosaurus, a meat-eating theropod dinosaur. Which we covered in our first post in this series. ‬Cryolophosaurus. Thats all for this series! Check next week for our a Reflection about my blog.

Dinosaurs in Snow: Trinisaura

Dinosaurs in Snow: Trinisaura

The third post in the Dinosaur in Snow series is all about Trinisaura. Trinisaura is a small ornithopod that lived in Antarctica. Not much is known about Trinisaura due to lack of remains. But as a ornithopod it walked on its two feet and ate vegetation. It shared its habitat with last weeks dinosaur. Antarctopelta.
Today's post was a little short so I am going to talk about Antarctica in the Mesozoic. In the Mesozoic Antarctica was way hotter but still cold for the time. Making it a pretty good place to live for a dinosaur! Thats all for this week! Tune in Next Week!

Dinosaurs in Snow: Antarctopelta

Dinosaurs in Snow: Antarctopelta

Our next post in the Dinosaurs in Snow series is Antarctopelta. An Nodosauridae dinosaur from the cretaceous. Antarctopelta`s length is 4 meters long. Antarctopelta is the first know armoured dinosaur to live in antarctia. Antarctopelta is very closely related to Ankylosaurids, but as a nodosaur, Antarctopelta dosen`t a tail club.
Antarctpelta has side spikes called ostderms. The ostderms are used to protect Antarctpelta from the teeth of predators. Thats all for this post! See you next week!

Dinosaurs in Snow: Cryolophosaurus

Dinosaurs in Snow: Cryolophosaurus

This month were are going to take a break from my usual posts to talk about dinosaur that lived in Antarctica! To start off this series of post were are taking about Cryolophosaurus, the meat-eater of Antarctica! His name means "cold crest lizard". He was discovered in 1994 by William R.‭ ‬Hammer & ‬William J.‭ ‬Hickerson. The Cryolophosaurus was estimated at ‬6.5‭ ‬meters long. Cryolophosaurus lived during the early Jurassic.

Cryolophosaurus was the biggest theropod of the early Jurassic era . But your probably asking the question, How could a dinosaur live in such a cold place like Antarctica! Well, back in the Jurassic ever thing was warmer including Antarctica! That's all for today's post! Tune in next week for more Dinosaurs in Snow.

Dinosaur Book Review: Pocket Genius Dinosaurs

Dinosaur Book Review: Pocket Genius Dinosaurs

Note: This review will compare this book to a another book by the same company. The other book is called "Dinosaurs and Prehistoic life" by DK books. That book came out in 2003 and this book came out in 2016.

Hello, readers! Today, beacuse I couldn`t think of anything else to talk about we are going to do a book review! This review will be put into 3 parts: Images, How Accurate it is and the Cost.

Images

The images in this book are great! The CGI looks pretty good! Some of the images are skeletons or sculptures. But, one thing makes these images less impressive.  Most of them are use used. This is a problem with all DK books. The oldest book using these images is Dinosaur and Prehistoic life! But I get it, CGI costs alot and for the ones that look good, so why would you even want to change the images?

How Accurate it is?

It is pretty accurate! But the T-rex dosen`t have feathers (Not a surpise). But I am going to use one exmaple to show how accurate the book is. In the book, spinosaurus shows a Jurassic Park 3 looking one with a crest. For the real Spinosaurus looked like please vist my other blog post. HERE.

Cost!

Best cost for any dinosaur book ever. 5 US dollars. Great Price. Just worth it to buy for the price.

Overall

Not that great on info but AWESOME on the Cost part. It great for carrying around beacuse of its size, its very small (But easy to lose!) Overall its score is....

SCORE. 5.5/10

Ledumahadi : Giant Thunderclap

Ledumahadi : Giant Thunderclap

Yes! A new dinosaur discovered! Ledumahadi is a large herbivore that weighed 12 tonnes. This dinosaur lived 200 million years ago and was the largest land animal to walk for the time. paleontologists do not know why dinosaurs grew this big. This could have been for reaching new food sources. The bones of this dinosaur were really thick to support his weight.
This dinosaur  is now the largest land animal  to live for its time. That is a huge thing to do! Well that's all for now tune in next week!

Note: Sue the T-rex is being put back on display! With new updates. it now has a rib cage and a wish bone!

Spinosaurus : Different Then You Know

Spinosaurus : Different Then You Know

The Spinosaurus a classic dinosaur made popular  by the movie Jurassic Park 3. In that movie ,Spinosaurus was shown as a large theropod with a crocodile like head and a huge sail. Though it was accurate for the time but today it is very inaccurate.
The first thing we should start off with the crest. Spinosaurus had a crest and it was placed above the nasal bone. Also the nosal is placed on top of the head, too! The body was way longer than the jurassic park one. Making his center of gravity in the middle of his body not at the leg! The means Spinosaurus can`t walk bipedally. So, he would have to walk on his nuckles. The paleontologists who found this skeleton suggested that Spinosaurus had webed feet.
With this new info on spinosaurus, we now belive that spinosaurus was only on water and very rarely going on land!

Apatosaurus or Brontosaurus?

                                      Apatosaurus or Brontosaurus?

We have all called an Apatosaurus a Brontosaurus at one point. Don`t deny it, but we know better now right? Or do we? Lets take a look back at Brontosaurus`s history.
Back in 1879, the first Brontosaurus genus was "found" by paleontologist Othniel C. Marsh. This specimen still is see-able at Great Hall of Yale`s Peabody Museum of Natural History.
But in 1903 paleontologist Elmer Riggs found that Brontosaurus was just the same genus as Apatosaurus. In such cases like this the rules of scientific nomenclature states that the oldest name is the correct name.
A nearly 300 page study sayed that Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus were different enough to be its own genus. This means now you can say that Brontosaurus is a real dinosaur!

Dynamoterror - New Tyrannosaur Discovered

Dynamoterror

In 2012 a paleontologist by the name of Andrew T. McDonald discovered dynamoterror in New Mexico`s Menefee Formaiton. When removing the bones of dynamoterror the bones were broken.
Dynamoterror was about 30 feet long and lived during the Late Cretaceous.
Dynamoterror and Lythronax are the oldest tyrannosauridae ever discovered. But Dynamoterror is only one part of the story aslo discovered was Invictarx. a nodosaurid ankylosaur discovered at the same time!
